A vivid and well-rounded view of this distinguished Anglo-Irish novelist, short story writer and literary figure of the 0s - 0s. Interesting too on the position and way of life of the Anglo-Irish and their decline. The author devotes a good deal of space to Bowen's works and my appetite was whetted for a re-read of old favourites such as 'The Heat of the Day' set in London during the second world war.
