Anyone who has ever been hideously embarrassed by something they have said or done will take heart from this hugely entertaining and, occasionally, excruciating portrayal of a journalist's efforts to 'conquer' America. Toby Young is the perfect anti-hero, almost wallowing in the flamboyant descriptions of his misguided and often disastrous attempts to 'make it' at Vanity Fair magazine. In his desperation to succeed, Toby is not only openly insecure and honest but compellingly likeable.
