Divine Comedy by Elisabeth Pewsey
This novel is set in a cathedral city where there is plenty of gossip. The main character is Quinta who at 14 runs away from school and family as she is pregnant. She is befriended by an older girl, has the baby and then gets a job as housekeeper with a middle-aged composer. She is also his part-time mistress. The story is about her efforts and those of her friends to find her a suitable husband.
