This is an amazing little book, a short story in the form of letters in the early 1930s between an American with an art gallery in San Francisco where he lives and his former partner who has returned to Germany. To tell more would probably give the game away, but to indicate its success I would add that the French translation was on the bestseller list in France for over a year.
