| Loosely based on a family mystery, this fictional tale is about a gay man forced, after the Wilde trial, to leave his wife and young daughter behind in comfortable Edwardian London and join pioneers taking uncultivated plots in the Canadian prairie. The abandoned daughter is Gale’s maternal grandmother. It has historical interest regarding the harsh lives of early settlers and displaced indigenous people. It is brutal and tender in equal measures. It’s a good read. (Ros Cook - bwl 118 Autumn 2025 )
