Dr Crippen's murder of his wife and flight with his mistress was a sensation. As she did with the Ripper murders, the author redresses the narrative balance this time with equal billing for victim and mistress. The result is a compelling portrait of an age on both sides of the Atlantic and insight into individual lives. A great read leaves some mysteries unsolved.
