An extremely imaginative and entertaining novel, drifting in and out of the past and present and ending in the future, as experienced by Isobel who in the 'present' (1960's) is sixteen and surrounded by an extraordinary cast of characters that make up her family, friends and neighbours. This fairytale story is bizarre, tragic, ghostly and very funny. It's nearly 400 pages but I feel well worth ploughing through.
