| Deserved winner of this year’s Carnegie Medal. Challenging since the author parallels the journey of a contemporary teen in his search for the father who walked away from the family when he was a young boy, and the myth of Theseus. Along the way they meet ‘monsters’ – and in the end the Minotaur. But who is the monster here? Challenging, maybe, but written as a verse novel which uses a variety of verse forms there is real engagement and immediacy. (Ferelith Hordon - bwl 113 Summer 2024 )
