Lark Rise to Candleford by Flora Thompson
If you enjoy reading about life in the country in England long ago, this is a book you must not miss. The author, a retired assistant post-mistress with a gift for writing, describes how people lived and worked in her Oxfordshire village and nearby market town (both given pseudonyms) towards the end of the 19th century. I thoroughly recommend this classic which was originally published in several parts starting in 1939.
