Memoirs of an Aesthete by Harold Acton
The author, historian and poet, born in 1904 into a wealthy Anglo-American family resident in Florence, paints an evocative picture of local life with its mixture of nationalities and eccentric figures. Taken in small doses, I found this gossipy autobiography interesting about a number of leading members of European artistic circles and about his experience in China, where he taught for several years between the two world wars.
