A Child Of The Forest |
Born in 1914 in the Forest of Dean, Winifred grows up in a small mining village where there is never enough to eat, the miners are atheists and philosophers and the wives are religious to a woman. This is a moving and delightful depiction of a world I knew nothing of. The dialogue is in the vernacular and sounds authentic and interesting - almost a different language. Quick to read and very enjoyable. (Julie Higgins - bwl 15 October 2002) |
