The Raqqa Diaries - by Samer: Escape from 'Islamic State' |
After reading the Sunday Times review, I felt compelled to read and now spread this unique account of life (and death) by a very brave man, Samer - not his real name. These diaries describe existence under Daesh (Islamic State) who liberated Raqqa, replacing Government troops with an ultra-extremist version of Islam with its own punishment of death by beheading - in front of a coerced crowd of local onlookers - on a daily basis . . . Samer has escaped and is now in a refugee camp. (James Baker - bwl 84 Spring 2017) |
