The Last Escape |
and Tony Rennell
This book is a fascinating description of the forced migration of Allied prisoners of war in 1944/45, West away from the advancing Russians and East ahead of the Allied advance. It is difficult to imagine such barbaric treatment and on such a large scale. It is a gripping read, because John Nichol has considerable empathy with the subject and because he captures the mood of the era through numerous personal accounts, diaries and historical data.
