              | Set in the highlands of Albania in the 1930s, Gjorg, trapped in a blood feud, lies in wait for the man he must kill. He knows his own life will end thirty days later because the ancient law of the Kanun demands it. A honeymoon couple visit the area. He views the Kanun objectively. She feels nothing but visceral horror at the endless chain of killings. A fleeting glimpse of Gjorg produces devastating consequences. The writing is powerfully stark and the ending fantastic. I loved it! (Denise Lewis - bwl 68 Spring 2013)
