Its creator, Hari Seldon, resolves to limit the destruction by creating a Foundation - ostensibly to preserve the knowledge of humanity. Excellent in its own right, this short book also sets the scene for the legendary series that follows. Epic in concept and scale, this is one of the great science fiction tales.
